Summer Sewing Camps for Kids

Summer Sewing Camps for Kids

Every summer I offer sewing camps for kids. It is a great time to take an entire week and learn to sew. Sewing is such a great lifelong skill and is so creative AND useful, not to mention FUN!

In the summer camp the kids start right off using the sewing machine! Of course the first thing discussed is machine safety to make sure no accidents happen. The Brother NS40e is such an easy machine for beginners and the kids just get it!

Learning to sew is easy on this entry level computerized sewing machine.

After a bit of practice sewing on paper and then fabric scraps, the kids start sewing their bags. I always pre-cut the fabric for the bags to save time and get them right into the fun part, which is the sewing, of course! I was really happy to find this wonderful polka dot cotton from Overseas Fabrics in Abbotsford. I loved the bright colours and I knew the kids would too.

The kids learn proper sewing techniques including  proper pinning and pressing. Do you see Milo under the table? He loves to hang out close to the action.

Even the usually timid kitty, Mercedes, came for a visit while the kids took a snack break in the ironing room. She is sporting her new lion cut!

Usually Mercedes is very timid but she came to visit the kids during their snack break.

At the end of the very first day they have a bag to keep their supplies in during class.

The classes are great for boys too! Boys enjoy the creativity of sewing as well, and are totally into the mechanics of the sewing machine. They get to make pj pants and of course the sleep-over pillow case. This speedster sewer had time to make another pillowcase so he had a set!

Boys love to sew! It is definitely not just for girls.

The girls made a sleep-over pillow case and a nightie, which was fairly challenging for the new sewers, but everyone rose to the challenge. At the end of the camp they were so proud to show off what they had made and yup, things got a bit goofy!

Last day of camp and the nighties and pillow cases are all done! Things tend to get a bit goofy at the SewGood studio!

SewGood also offers year round kids classes for those that want want to keep on sewing! And of course there are beginner sewing classes for adults too!
